What Is Epoxy Flooring?

Epoxy flooring is a two-part resin system applied over prepared concrete. It builds a new, seamless surface in whatever color or decorative style you choose. Popular variations include solid color and flake systems (see our dedicated flake page), usually sealed with a tough polyaspartic or urethane topcoat.

Unlike polished concrete (which refines the existing slab), epoxy adds a protective and decorative coating on top — giving you color, chemical resistance, and a continuous surface that hides minor imperfections.

Solid Color vs Flake Epoxy

Solid color epoxy delivers a clean, uniform surface. It is the most budget-friendly decorative option and works well in warehouses, utility rooms, commercial floors, and cost-conscious garages. Anti-slip aggregate can be added to the topcoat where needed.

Flake epoxy broadcasts decorative vinyl chips into the coating, then seals them under a clear topcoat for a textured, multi-tone finish. Chip blends can be tuned to almost any color scheme, and the added texture improves slip resistance underfoot. Best for garages, basements, showrooms, and commercial spaces that want durability with visual character.

Both systems rely on the same fundamentals: mechanical surface prep (diamond grinding or shot blasting), moisture testing/mitigation, and a quality UV-stable topcoat — especially important under Colorado’s intense high-altitude sun.
